Past And The Evolution Of Augmented Reality Over the Years

An advanced technology known as augmented reality allows users to interact with digital objects using real-time input. The views of physical objects, real environments that are augmented by computer-generated sensor inputs, like graphics, videos, and GPS data, are either direct or indirect. Augmented reality video enhances the experience of the users by using digital technology.

So, here is how augmented reality over the years has been evolved:

1968:

Ivan Sutherland was a Harvard professor and a computer scientist who teamed up with his students Bob Sprowle as they wanted to create “The Sword of Damocles” or in simple terms a first head-mounted display, they discovered the initial stages of Augmented Reality.

1974:

Myron Krueger did the biggest development in AR. The project was named “VideoPlace” as it combines video cameras and projection to create shadows on the screen.

1990:

“Augmented Reality” was officially used by a Boeing researcher called Tom Cadell.

1992:

Louis Rosenberg, who worked in the USAF Armstrong research lab, created the first application of Artificial Intelligence called “Virtual Fixtures”. This system is considered to be an early version of AR.

1999:

NASA spacecraft used a hybrid synthetic vision system that integrated AR technology. It was used during flight testing to develop navigation.

2002:

A breakthrough occurred with the creation of ARToolkit and the software by Hirokazu Kato of NIST. The software helped to capture real-world actions and integrate them with virtual objects.

2003:
The NFL inserted a virtual down marker using Skycom, which provides aerial views of the industry.

2009:
Robert Downey Junior, along with Esquire Magazine had used AR in print media; a reader could use a computer to scan barcodes on a magazine to view AR content.

2013:
Volkswagen used augmented reality technology to create a car manual. With the MARTA app for iPad, customers could see how their vehicle was performing on the inside

2014:

Google used AR technology and created Google Glasses but it wasn’t successful as the developer expected, so later they withdrew at the end of 2015.

2016:

Augmented Reality became a sensation when a game called “Pokemon Go” was released. And it took the whole world by storm as it entered human day-to-day life in the way of games. This game became so popular that it crossed over 100 million downloads.

As the use of AI has increased in apps as well as education, it has also helped students to enhance their educational experience. Today you can see live augmented reality animals through apps like fectar. In addition, AR aids students in learning complex concepts intuitively.

AI got widely used in human lives. The use of AR has increased rapidly over the years. So AR learning would give you a great future, considering the growth in the use of Augmented Reality. Research also suggests that it won’t be limited to mobile phones, but will spread to other devices as well. AR has unlimited power and the potential to grow. It’s time we start today.
